Another Ramadan*[[--- Episode Ten

*
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Everyday in the month of Ramadan is a blessing for every believing man and woman. Therefore, we should prepare very well for it or work hard inside it, so that all the goodies inside 29 or 30 days of the month of Ramadan should not for any reason sleep off our fingers.

*Eating Pre-dawn Meal:*

Sahūr or Suhoor Arabic: سحور‎, - 'pre-dawn meal'), is the meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting (sawm), before dawn during or outside the Islamic month of Ramadan.

*Why Pre-dawn Meal?*

▪️Eating sahur is a blessing in itself

While it’s not obligatory for you to have sahur (it’s a sunnah, after all!). Yes, don’t underestimate the importance of it as it is a meal that is filled with blessings. Evidence:

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

 تَسَحَّرُوا فَإِنَّ فِي السَّحُورِ بَرَكَةً

“Have Sahur, for there is a blessing in Sahur.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

On this,

There are few individuals whose nature does not go with eating early.. But yet, the Prophet (PBUH) stressed:

*"Eat Sahur, even if [it was only] a gulp of water,"* [As narrated by Ans Ibn Malek, Al Khodary, Abd Allah Ibn Amr, and declared authentic by Al Albany]

Servants of Allah!

Did you know that besides Islam, other religions also practice the act of fasting? Some of those include Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, Taoism, Jainism, and Hinduism. So, as Muslims, we are required to avoid imitating them and as stated by The Prophet (PBUH):

*“The difference between our fasting and the fasting of the people of the Book is eating suhoor.”* [Muslim]

Now,

*What is the Interval between the End of the Suhur and the Dawn Prayer?*

Zayd ibn Thabit, (ra) said, "We took the suhur with the Prophet (pbuh). Then he stood for the prayer. I asked: What is the interval between the suhur and the call to prayer? He replied: *'The interval is sufficient to recite fifty verses of the Qur'an.'"* Authentic

*The Call to Prayer Should not Stop You from Taking Suhur*

'A'ishah (ra), reported that Bilal used to pronounce the call to prayer at night, so Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said: *"Carry on taking your meals till Ibn Umm Maktum pronounces the call to prayer, for he does not pronounce it till it is dawn."* Recorded by Al-Bukhari

To get the above hadeeth better,

Ibn 'Umar (ra) reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) had two mu'adhin: Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum. The Messenger of Allah said: *"Bilal proclaims the call to prayer at the end of the night, so eat and drink till Ibn Umm Maktum pronounces it."*

Ibn 'Umar added:

*"And the gap between their calls to prayer was not more than the time spent in one's getting down and the other's climbing (the minaret)."* Recorded by Al-Bukhari and Muslim

Now,

We learn from this tradition that in the days of the Prophet (pbuh), there used to be two call to prayers in the morning. The first was meant to warn the people who were taking the suhur meals that the time for the suhur was about to finish and they should make preparation for fajr prayer. Soon after that there was a second by another, which signified that the time for food was finished and people should attend to the prayer.

But,

*When Any of You Hears the Summons to Prayer While He has a Vessel in His Hand:*

The Prophet (pbuh) said: *"When any of you hears the summons to prayer while he has a vessel in his hand, he should not lay it down till he fulfils his need."* Reported in the Sunan of Abu Dawud

But,

As for the one who hears the call and he has not yet started eating or drinking, then the Messenger (pbuh) made that UNLAWFUL for him or her to commence eating or drinking
